'Can't believe it': Reaction to Casey Anthony verdict
Inside and outside a Florida courtroom, the jury's verdict in the Casey Anthony trial left many stunned, outraged or relieved Tuesday.
The 25-year-old mother was found not guilty in the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, but convicted of four counts of lying to investigators looking into the girl's disappearance in June 2008.
"I can't believe it. I'm shocked. Oh my God, I can't believe it," Angela Wright, of Elkhart, Ind., told the Orlando Sentinel on Tuesday.
Casey Anthony found not guilty of murdering daughter
She joined hundreds of others, like Janine Gonzalez, outside the Orange County Courthouse in Florida.
"Where's justice for Caylee?" Gonzalez told the Sentinel. Gonzalez said she lives a few miles from the Anthony home in east Orange County. "Do you mean to tell me that in Florida you can kill your child, toss her on the side of the road and go free? She (Casey Anthony) better move and move to a faraway place."
Here are more reactions to the verdict:
Lawson Lamar, Florida state attorney
"We're disappointed in the verdict today because we know the facts and we've put in absolutely every piece of evidence that existed. ... This is a dry-bones case. Very, very difficult to prove. The delay in recovering little Caylee's remains worked to our considerable disadvantage."
Jose Baez, Casey's defense lawyer
"While we're happy for Casey, there are no winners in this case," Baez said at a news conference afterward. "Caylee has passed on far, far too soon. And what my driving force has been for the last three years has been always to make sure that there has been justice for Caylee and Casey, because Casey did not murder Caylee. It's that simple."
Joe Adamson, an Orlando businessman
"I think it is really great that we have science, but we also have common sense," Adamson told the Sentinel. "These guys (jurors) didn't buy into science fiction."
Story: Hollywood reacts to Casey Anthony verdict
Ti McLeod, a neighbor of the Anthony family
"The justice system has failed Caylee."
Jodie Ickes, who shares the same hairdresser as Anthony
"I'm comfortable with the outcome."
Doug Berman, a criminal law professor at Ohio State University
"In some sense, it's a sign that the system worked well," Berman said. "The job of the system is not to turn this into a Hollywood ending, but to have all the actors in the system do the job to the best of their ability."
Gregory Jantz, psychologist
"Popular opinion did find her guilty, which is why we have so many people right now in shock," said Jantz, author of "Overcoming Anxiety, Worry and Fear" and founder of counseling and treatment center A Place of Hope. "The next phase is going to be anger, and particularly from people who have suffered from trauma in their own lives."
Chad Ochocinco
The Cincinnati Bengals' wide receiver said "Dear @CNN am I hearing things correctly but I believe i heard the words #NotGuilty uttered numerous times.I could be mistaken just asking?"
Justin Stangel
David Letterman's Late Night writer tweeted : "Casey Anthony found not guilty of murder! She screamed "Wow, even I thought I did it!"
Kerry Sanders
Sanders said he received messages from people in Nigeria, Germany and worldwide telling the NBC News correspondent how they had been captivated by the Florida case.
